Founded in 1971, the California High School Rodeo Association (CHSRA) is the California State Chapter of the National High School Rodeo Association (NHSRA). CHSRA serves more than 800 members across nine districts and offers competition in two divisions:

Junior High (Grades 5–8) and High School (Grades 9–12)

Each of CHSRA's nine districts hosts approximately 8–10 sanctioned rodeos each season. Contestants earn points throughout the year, with the top five Junior High contestants and top six High School contestants in each event qualifying for the California State Finals. From there, the top four competitors in each event earn the opportunity to represent California at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo and National High School Finals Rodeo.
