A Message from our State Queen

Alise Sanderson

Hello and welcome to the California High School Rodeo Association’s website where you can learn the ropes about America’s number one family sport!
  I am
Alise Sanderson and proud to say I am the Miss California High School Rodeo Queen 2007-2008. In July I had the wonderful opportunity to represent California at the National High School Rodeo Finals Queen Pageant in Springfield, IL. I returned to California after competing against 46 young ladies from the provinces of Canada, the U.S. and Australia, placing in the top 10 and having the time of my life. I started my journey with District Dynamite 9 three years ago where I have competed in Break-a-way Roping, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending and the Queen Pageant.
If you are interested in rodeo or horses you’ve come to the right place. High School Rodeo is an organization designed for educational and charitable purposes. Not only does it include the United States but it crosses the ocean to Australia and includes our neighbors to the north, Canada. Some states are divided into smaller districts, California falls into this category. We are spilt into 9 different districts based on geographical location. There are 13 different rodeo events.
The girl’s events include: Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Girls Cutting, Break-a-way Roping, Goat Tying and the Queen Contest. The boy’s events include: Tie-Down Roping, Steer Wrestling, Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bull Riding, Boys Cutting and the only event that allows both boys and girls to compete together as a team, Dally Team Roping.

Cowgirls and Cowboys compete throughout the school year attempting to achieve their goal to be in the top five of their event and make the journey to the State Finals. After the completion of State Finals the top four in eachevent and the State Queen will have the honor of competing at the National High School Finals Rodeo where contestants represent their state.  Next year the National Finals will be held in Farmington,New Mexico the third week of July.
High School Rodeo has opened so many new doors for me, and I’ve made many new friends that I hope will last a life time. I have learned to take on new responsibilities and deal with the challenges they may present. Every great journey begins with a single step”
